Finished your DS-160, registered your AIS account, but stuck at the payment page? All cities showing "No Appointments Available"?
Don't panic! This is one of the most common issues when applying for a US visa in Canada, usually caused by one wrong selection.
The #1 Mistake: Wrong TCN Option
When registering your AIS account, there's a critical question:
"Are you traveling from another country to apply for a U.S. visa in Canada?"
Many people see "traveling from another country" and select Yes — this is wrong!
Correct Answer: Select No, regardless of whether you have a work permit, study permit, or PR!
Why?
The US now prohibits visa applications outside your country of residence or nationality. If you select Yes, the system treats you as a TCN (Third Country National), and the TCN appointment pool usually has no available dates.
Note: If you only have a Canadian visitor visa, under the new policy you must return to your home country to apply for a US visa.
Still Can't Pay After Selecting No? Try This Trick
If you've confirmed the TCN option is correct but still see "No Appointments Available", try this workaround:
Steps
- Click Edit to modify your personal information
- Find the option "is either a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada"
- Temporarily change this option (e.g., from TR to PR)
- Save and return to the payment page — you should now be able to pay!
- Change it back immediately after payment! Don't forget this step!
Why This Works
PR (Permanent Resident) and TR (Temporary Resident) have separate appointment pools. When one pool has no available dates, the other might. By temporarily switching your status, you can access the other pool to complete payment.
Important: You must change back to your real status immediately after payment, or you may have issues with your actual appointment.

If you can't pay due to "No Appointments Available", check in this order:
- Verify the TCN option is set to No
- If still stuck, try temporarily switching PR/TR status
- Change back to your real information immediately after payment
